In high-density data center cabinets, AI computing clusters, and new energy vehicle thermal management systems, electrical short circuits and fires caused by coolant leaks are safety hazards that operators are concerned about. Once a regular rubber hose encounters an open flame, it may become a "combustion enhancer" for the spread of fire, and the 24-hour uninterrupted operation of liquid cooling systems requires pipeline materials to be upgraded from "passive fire-resistant" to "active flame-retardant". The UL94 V-0 certified flame-retardant and fire-resistant EPDM cooling water pipe is a professional product designed to meet this safety requirement. It is lined with peroxide vulcanized EPDM to ensure the purity of the medium, covered with V-0 level flame-retardant outer layer to construct an active firewall, and reinforced with fiber weaving to balance flexibility and pressure resistance, becoming a "flexible channel" of safety level in liquid cooling systems. 1、 V-0 flame retardant: construction of "active firewall" under UL94 standard UL94 V-0 is one of the strict fire protection levels for plastic and rubber materials, and its testing requires the material to self extinguish within 10 seconds after moving away from the fire source in a vertical combustion state, without producing molten droplets that ignite the degreased cotton. For enclosed spaces with densely packed electronic components inside server cabinets, this standard means that the hoses themselves will not become a "combustion enhancer" for fires, and even if adjacent equipment catches fire, the hoses will not actively spread flames. The EPDM cooling water pipe certified by UL94 V-0 incorporates a flame retardant system into the material formula. When the flame contacts the pipe wall, the flame retardant decomposes and releases non combustible gases (such as nitrogen and water vapor) at high temperatures, diluting the oxygen concentration around the flame and forming a dense carbide layer to isolate heat from contact with unburned materials. This reaction mechanism enables the hose to "actively defend" against external fire sources, buying valuable time for emergency shutdown of the liquid cooling system. Taking the Alfagomma 959 Autolock Evolution EPDM hose as an example, its outer coating is clearly marked to meet UL94 V-0 flame retardant standards, with a working pressure of up to 20 bar (approximately 300 psi) and a temperature coverage of -40 ℃ to+120 ℃. CEJN thermal management hoses have also passed UL94 V-0 certification and are made of zinc free peroxide cured EPDM material to ensure the purity of the coolant. The Gates Data Master series has passed the UL224 VW-1 vertical combustion test in addition to the UL94 V-0, further meeting the composite requirements for material safety in the "white space" of data centers. 2、 Structural synergy: the "three in one" safety guarantee from inner lining to outer covering The excellent safety performance of flame-retardant and fire-resistant EPDM cooling water pipes is the result of the synergistic effect of the three-layer structure of "inner layer reinforcement layer outer coating layer". The inner adhesive layer is the line of defense to ensure the purity of the coolant. Adopting a peroxide sulfurized EPDM formula, completely abandoning the traditional zinc oxide (zinc white) required for sulfur sulfurization, fundamentally eliminating the hidden danger of zinc salt precipitation contaminating the coolant. The Gates Data Master series clearly labels its inner tube as "metal free, peroxide cured EPDM", which can effectively prevent fluid pollution after long-term operation. At the same time, the saturated molecular structure of EPDM gives it excellent chemical stability, hydrolysis resistance, and aging resistance to water ethylene glycol based antifreeze solutions (such as PG25). The reinforcement layer is the mechanical framework of the hose to withstand working pressure. Using high-strength synthetic fiber weaving structure, taking the 3/4 inch specification as an example, the working pressure can reach 300psi (about 2.1MPa), the small burst pressure can reach 1200psi (about 8.3MPa), and the safety factor is more than 4 times. The fiber woven structure endows the hose with excellent flexibility - the 3/4 inch specification has a small bending radius of only 105mm, which can be flexibly laid in the narrow space of the cabinet. The Alfagomma 959 series also uses fiber weaving reinforcement, with a small bending radius as low as 36mm (1/4 inch specification) and excellent anti twisting performance. The outer layer is the core load-bearing layer for flame retardant and fire-resistant functions. Adopting flame-retardant EPDM synthetic rubber with added flame retardant system in the formula, achieving UL94 V-0 fire certification, while also possessing ozone resistance, UV resistance, and weather aging resistance. The outer coating of the LT800 series liquid cooling pipeline of Litong Technology has also passed the UL94 V0 flame retardant certification, and the "EPDM seal+UL94 V0 level flame retardant" form a dual safety defense line. Some products also offer multi-color outer coating options such as red, blue, and black, which facilitate pipeline identification and regular wiring. 3、 Application Validation: Security Practices from Data Centers to Energy Storage Systems The application scenarios of UL94 V-0 flame retardant EPDM cooling water pipes have expanded from liquid cooling of data center servers to a wider range of fields, and their safety value has been verified in multi scenario practice. The liquid cooling system for data center cold plates is currently the application market. With the power density of single cabinet breaking through 30kW, the distance between liquid cooling pipelines and high heating elements (CPU, GPU) is getting closer, and flame retardant performance has become a rigid indicator for selection. The Gates Data Master series is designed specifically for high-density liquid cooling environments, with sizes ranging from 1.25 to 2 inches and a bending radius reduced by 75% compared to similar products. It balances safety and space efficiency in high flow backbone pipeline scenarios. The LT800 series from Litong Technology provides full scene coverage from cold plate jumper (LT800A) to grid backbone (LT800B/C), and has passed UL certification in the United States. Energy storage systems and new energy thermal management are rapidly emerging new scenarios. The energy storage battery module is highly sensitive to fire hazards, and the UL94 V-0 flame-retardant hose, combined with EPDM seals, can meet the demanding requirements of high and low temperature alternation and strong corrosion scenarios. Dixon Dikesheng liquid cooling hoses cover various scenarios such as plasma cutting, liquid cooling in the automotive industry, injection molding, and industrial equipment cooling. They have a working pressure of 16 bar (3:1 safety factor) and a temperature range of -40 ℃ to 140 ℃. Danfoss Royal EHW194 EPDM hoses are also positioned for data center and electric vehicle thermal management, balancing cost and safety. In terms of installation and operation, flame-retardant hoses are usually compatible with UQD (universal quick disconnect) connectors or compression type connectors, which can be easily plugged and unplugged with one hand in seconds. The two-way valve design achieves "dry disconnection, no dripping", effectively protecting electronic devices from coolant damage during maintenance. In summary, the UL94 V-0 certified flame-retardant and fire-resistant EPDM cooling water pipe perfectly meets the strict requirements of data centers and new energy heat pipe management systems for "safe and flame-retardant, pure medium, and flexible and easy to install" with its three core technologies: the purity guarantee of peroxide vulcanized EPDM lining, the flexibility and pressure resistance enhanced by fiber weaving, and the active protection of V-0 level flame-retardant coating. From UL224 VW-1 to UL94 V-0 dual certification, from a compact bending radius of 105mm to ample redundancy with a safety factor of 4, from wide temperature range adaptation from -40 ℃ to 120 ℃ to 100000 bending tests, every technical detail points to the same goal: providing reliable guarantees of zero leakage, zero pollution, and zero combustion assistance for liquid cooling systems next to electronic devices that operate continuously for 7 × 24 hours.
